The Science Behind Dehumidification

The Science Behind Dehumidification

In our Corpus Christi Gulf Coast Environment, things tend to get sweaty year round. As humidity rises, the sensation of heat becomes more intense, leading to a stifling and oppressive atmosphere.

When you’re stuck at home, and you have no way of dehumidifying the air, it can feel like a sauna. There are two primary solutions to this. You can get a whole-house dehumidifier, or you can look into air conditioning in Corpus Christi, Texas.

How It Works
Both of these options will work to reduce humidity levels inside the home, cooling you down considerably. But how does that work? Why does it work? In both cases, the unit draws in moist air, at which point it will pass over an evaporator coil that’s filled with refrigerant. The moisture in the air will condense on the coil and fall into a drip pan or basin. With humidity now removed, the resulting dry air is pushed back out into the space.

With less humidity, not only will comfort levels rise, you’ll mitigate the undesirable effects of high humidity. Pests, bugs, and bacteria tend to flock to places where humidity is high. That can lead to infestations and health risks throughout the home. Not only that, but you’re likely to spend money dealing with these complications that you could have otherwise avoided. Lowered humidity will be less attractive to pests, bugs, and bacteria, increasing your comfort and safety.

High humidity promotes the growth of mold and mildew, as well. As humidity races past the 60% threshold, mold and mildew start to grow. That can cause wood rot where condensation is high, damage your furniture or belongings, and attack your allergies. Cleanup and repairs due to rot can be expensive and time-consuming, so it’s best avoided entirely.
